NIT bracket 2022: Tournament schedule, college basketball scores, dates, times for the 32-team field

Written by on March 18, 2022

The second round of the NIT now has times and locations set after first round action wrapped up on Wednesday night. Among the highlights from first round action was Florida knocking off Iona 79-74. The Gators will advance to play Xavier in the second round. That game will be a showdown between programs in transition after Florida coach Mike White left to take the Georgia job and Xavier parted with coach Travis Steele.

In other NIT action on Wednesday, Wake Forest put behind the disappointment of missing out on the NCAA Tournament by defeating Towson 74-64 in first round action. Dallas Walton led the Demon Deacons with 17 points as top scorers Alondes Williams and Jake LaRavia both turned in quiet offensive nights. Damari Monsantao added 14 points off the bench in just 13 minutes for Wake Forest, which advances to play VCU in the second round.

It was also a good night for Wake Forest’s ACC brethren Virginia as the Cavaliers outlasted Mississippi State 60-57. Dayton, SMU, Northern Iowa and BYU also advanced Monday night as the march to Madison Square Garden continued.

Success in the NIT does not always predict bigger things the following season, but it can. Last season’s champion, Memphis, is in the NCAA Tournament field this season. Baylor reached the Sweet 16 in 2013 after an NIT title in 2012, and West Virginia did the same in 2007 after winning the NIT in 2006. Here is a look at the full bracket.
